Ten individuals sentenced of online harassment against Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has ruled against ten people for perpetrating the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced allegations of spreading fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to publishing malicious remarks about the pair's age disparity of 24 years.
The court delivered suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the defendants. The complete verdict has not yet been published.
A persistent unfounded claim suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has spread widely since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons engaging in a legal action for defamation in the US against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has also voiced comparable unfounded claims about the Brigitte Macron's gender.
Their complaint alleges that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence contradicting her allegations in favour of platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her digital program and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her insistence that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her current spouse when she taught at his secondary school.
The two married in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
